    I am thoroughly disspointed with this purchase. I wanted to get a package system and was convinced of Onkyo quality but this is a total disappointment.

    The sound quality is very poor. I dont expect it to be very good for the price range. But it is bad. You have to turn the volume way up.

    The RCA feed from my DVD player does not show up on the screen, I can hear the sound, but no video. After much research, I found out that I need to purchase another HDMI capable DVD player OR run another RCA cable to from the receiver to the TV. Pretty weak!!!

    If I can round up the original packaging, then I am going to return it.

    recently purchased onkyo ht-s5300 overall i am happy with this pacage what do you want for 500 bucks i am a little disapointed in the reciever it sounds great at lower volumes but as u turn it up it starts to hum buzz distort i have a older cheap sony 6.1 reciever that doesent destort untill just before max volume this unit starts to do it at 2 thirds volume how i hear this is with nothing playing turning up the volume til i hear it i can also hear it when music is playing at higher volumes so i guess if you never turn it up past 50 you should be fine i am not a expert and dont listin to really loud music all the time but sometimes you want to crank up a old favorite i guess if you want to go loud sometimes you should think about a higher end or different brand reciever

    I recently received this HTIB (home theater in a box) system and stayed up till 7 in the morning setting it up. I’m not an “audiophile” but from a music lover, i can say that this system is fantastic! I have not experienced any issues, would definitely recommend this product as the best bang for you buck in this price range. The receiver is solid, so if you want to upgrade the speakers in the future its not a problem. My only desire is for it to take video feed from any input and output it via HDMI. From my research, this is usually only available on much more expensive models. Playing COD MW2 on XBOX, i am totally immersed in the game, and can hear if someone tries to sneak up on me. Watched transporter and was immersed in beautiful surround sound. I don’t have direct tv or PS3, but have not experienced any issues with the back surround channels being switched on PCM mode, although I did switch to pCM on my DVD player and the sound played through the proper channels. Totally in love with this system, would recommend to anyone hands down!

    Pros

    * Sounds great for the price.

    * Easy setup.

    Cons

    * Multichannel PCM surround bug, which I avoid by disabling 5.1 and 7.1 PCM on my PS3. I let Dolby come through unmolested, which you ought to do anyhow since the PS3 Dolby decoder leaves the rear speakers silent in 7.1. Dolby EX FTW.

    * Some HDMI compatibility hiccups, which are probably due to my older TV(2007 Samsung 1080p LCD) and cable box. Pink-tinted screen, no video/sound, etc. Rarely happens. Power cycle the tv/box/reciever and all is well.
